Florence Briscoe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bennie Smith Funeral Homes - Chestertown on Mar. 5, 2024.
Florence's Journey
Florence Gertrude (Freeman) Briscoe was born October 22nd, 1936 to the late Woodson and Florence Freeman in Melitota, Maryland. She was the 8th of 14 children. The Lord called her home on February 27, 2024. Florence graduated from Henry Highland Garnett High School in 1955.
In 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Briscoe. From this union, five daughters were born. She also raised a niece as her own daughter.
Florence was raised in the church as a young child at Mount Pisgah and remained active throughout her adult life. She was a member of the church Sunday school and sang with the Jr. Echos under the direction of her aunt, Beatrice Mason. Her favorite song was "There Is a Bright Side Somewhere." Florence and the Jr. Echos sang live every Sunday morning on a radio station in Annapolis, Maryland. Upon moving to Georgetown, she worked diligently at Asbury United Methodist Church as well as Mount Pisgah. Florence was there whenever work or cooking was to be done without being asked and always remained until the task was completed.
She worked at Vita Foods and then at Campbell Soup until 1995, when their doors closed. She also assisted in catering services. Forever a hard worker, she continued to work as a domestic engineer up until her health began to fail.
Florence was a kind spirited, loving person who would selflessly give you her last and never looked for anything in return. She was such a giving person that if you were not careful, she would give someone in need your belongings. Florence was a fabulous cook, known for her cakes and rice pudding.
Preceding Florence in death were her beloved daughters, Deborah Denise Briscoe and Pamela Caroline Robbins and grandson, Jovan Lee Ellis. In addition, 12 siblings also preceded her in death, Howard Freeman, Charles Freeman, Woodson Freeman, Melvin Freeman, George Freeman, Beatrice Freeman, Norman Freeman, Ellen Lively, and Andrew Freeman.
Left to cherish her memory are: her devoted husband, Herbert Briscoe; daughters, Diana Brown (James), Dorothea Briscoe, Valerie Briscoe and Patricia Webb (Frank); grandchildren, Brandon Briscoe, Latisha Brown, Devron Brown, Taquia Brown, Dina Chiles, Clifton Wilson, Jr., Sheena Chislom, Shaina Cartwright, Shalayah Mcknight, Tyeshia Cousins and Daiquan Cousins; her sister, Dorothy Wilson and brother Simon Freeman; two sisters-in-law, Zena and Delores Freeman; devoted sister-in-law, Mary C. Grinnell; very special friends, Anna Mae Henry and Faye Elliott and a host of nieces, nephews, great grands, cousins, and numerous friends.
