Robert Pritchett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bennie Smith Funeral Homes - Chestertown on Aug. 22, 2025.
Robert, affectionately known as "Jimmy" was born October 15, 1946, in Centreville, MD. He is the son of the late Robert Marvin Pritchett, Sr. and Bertha Ann Rozier Pritchett. God called his servant to take his rest in Glory on Friday, August 8, 2025. He fought the good fight; he finished the race; and kept the faith-leaving behind a legacy that would continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. He received his early education in the Queen Anne's County Public Schools and graduated from Kennard High School in 1965. It was at Kennard where he met his first wife, Christine Emma Jones Pritchett. From their union of 55 years, they had two daughters, Kaynette and Dana. He was more than a father; he was their "mister-mom," shepherding them to activities, encouraging them to dream big, and grounding them in the wisdom of biblical teachings. The Lord blessed him with a grandson, Justin Sye, whom he took great pride in. Spending time with his grandson was one of his great joys. They could be found spending time together at the arcade, on vacation, the Orioles games, and enjoying his favorite pass time-fishing! Justin could count on his Pop-pop to support him in everything he did, and to give him wise counsel. Jimmy's spirit was infectious-free, fun, and humble. Whether known as Dad, Pop-Pop, Brother, Uncle Jimmy, friend, or Bishop, he touched hearts with kindness and wisdom. He was a man of faith, guiding not only his family but also the many souls who crossed his path. In every town he called home, he left a mark, serving his community with the same devotion he showed his loved ones. In 1987, when the Grasonville Community Center first opened its doors, Jimmy stepped forward as its inaugural president, serving for over five years. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1966 at Robinson's AME Church, Grasonville, MD under the late Jesse Brown. As he grew in his faith, he accepted his call to preach in 1975 under the late Norman E. Blackston. He served there until the Lord called him to Pastoral ministry. It is said that he was the first minister to come out of Robinson's AME Church after 40 years. In April of 1977, he received his first pastoral appointment at Wright's AME Church in Elkton, MD. His second appointment was St. James AME Church in Havre De Grace, MD, in April of 1980, where the congregation welcomed him with open arms. Change came once again in April 1984, when he was appointed to Adams Chapel AME Church, Baltimore, MD. As he ministered there, a new calling began to press upon his heart to plant a ministry on the Upper Eastern Shore of Maryland. He listened, prayed, and finally, in September of 1987, Faith Unity Fellowship Interdenominational Church, Inc. was born out of his home starting with seven founding members. In 1997, he was ordained as bishop by Bishop Robert Farrow. His spiritual vision inspired the reincorporation of the ministry to Faith Unity Fellowship Interdenominational Worldwide Ministries, Inc. Spanning his years in ministry, over sixty men and women answered their call to preach the gospel with ministries across Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. He received his Doctor of Divinity degree from Kingdom University in 2007. A matriculate of Howard University, he received his graduate degree from Liberty University as well as an undergraduate from the University of Maryland College Park. He received a Certificate of Biblical Counseling from Light University, Forest, VA. Bishop Pritchett founded and served as president of Koinonia Biblical Theological Institute & College, an affiliate of LOGOS Educators Network of Jacksonville, FL; founded and served as president of The Little Lights of Faith Early Learning Center, 2017 (known as Faith Unity's Daycare Center); co-founder of We Care Ministerial Alliance, a coalition of pastors committed to uplifting the communities they served on Maryland's Eastern Shore. He founded and organized Black Brothers for Change, a mentoring ministry focused on black male youth, for which he received a "13 Gold Salute" from Channel 13 News in 1992. In March 2014, he became a member of Global United Fellowship and was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Coalition of Bishops and Apostles. He was a member of the Prince George's Ministers Support Group, among themselves referred to as "the brothers." He co-founded of (remove "of") the Chesapeake College of Bishops and Pastors, May 2009 the first officers were installed, and he served as the presiding Bishop until he retired in 2023. He is the recipient of numerous awards and certificates, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, the President's Volunteer Service Award, a Lifetime Silver Medal for National Community Service, and a Bronze Medal for Volunteer Service, all presented by President Obama in 2017. He authored three books, "Season of the Lion", "Victoriously Blessed: From Adversity to Blessings!", and his most recent book released July 2025, "God Has The Final Say: Medication Meditations". Bishop retired in 2023 from Pastoring and assumed the position of Bishop Emeritus in the Faith Unity Fellowship Worldwide Ministries and in service to the Chesapeake College of Bishops. Although retired, he continued to preach the gospel and be active in the ministry. In 2023, he married the former Bonzella "Bonnie" Harmon, adding three children and 20 grandchildren and three great grandchildren to his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Bonzella "Bonnie", daughters Kaynette Handy (Ted), Townsend, DE and Dana Pritchett, Baltimore, MD; grandson Justin Sye, Baltimore, MD; stand-in son Lenell Jones (Beverly) Grasonville, MD; Step-daughter Amber Auguste (Karl) and Step-sons Aaron Garnett (Turquoise), and Marshall Corbin all of Elkton, MD; step-grandsons Theodore Handy, III, New Jersey, Ryan Handy, New Castle, DE, and the host of 20 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
