Florence Mae Bunning, age 88, went to be home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 4, 2024 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana after struggling for several years from Parkinson's disease.
Florence was born on July 8, 1936 in Morocco, Indiana to parents Allan and Blanche Augustin. When she was young, she worked at her father's newspaper, the Morocco Courier, and played the piano at the First United Methodist Church. Florence graduated from Morocco High School in 1955, and then attended Indiana State University where she graduated with a Bachelors' Degree in Music Education in 1959. While at Indiana State, she met Robert Bunning whom she later married on August 23, 1959 in Morocco, Indiana.
After marriage, they lived in Indianapolis, Indiana where she taught elementary school music for one year before she became a homemaker, raising their four children. They later moved to Hebron Indiana where she briefly taught Kindergarten. They also briefly lived in Middlebury, Indiana before moving to LaPorte, Indiana.
Florence directed the LaPorte County Choralaires for eight years. Florence was actively involved in Bible study and taught a community Bible study for eight years. Later in life, she went back to school and got a Master's degree in Education from Purdue University. Before residing in Muncie, they briefly moved to Greenwood. Florence enjoyed spending time with her family, singing, repairing and refinishing antiques, making scrapbooks, and working on genealogies as hobbies. Most importantly, her greatest joy was sharing her life-long faith in the Lord as she selflessly served others.
Florence is survived by her daughters Tammy Koch (Tracy), Debbie Gilley (Ridge), and Angie Davids (Eric); her son Alan Bunning ( Joanne); Fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her husband Robert Bunning, and her grandchildren Kelsey Koch and Reid Gilley.
The family would appreciate a donation to a charity listed below in lieu of flowers.
