Florence Elizabeth Geary 101 of Barton City, Michigan passed away on March 20th at Lincoln Haven Nursing Home. She was born on April 24, 1923, on her grandparents' farm and raised in Middleton Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lloyd Shuttleworth and Kate Florence Shuttleworth.
At the age of 18 the family moved to Detroit and worked at Lyon Inc when WWII began in 1941. The company made 40 ML shell casings for the Navy during the war and converted to wheelcovers for car companies. When Lyons moved to Granada Miss in 1962 Florence worked at Sterling Stamping in Southfield Mich from 1962-1980 and then retired to Barton City.
Florence graduated from Fulton Twp Highschool in May 1941 in Middleton.
Florence enjoyed bowling which began in 1942 with the Lyon Inc. league and continued at Village Lanes in Harrisville from 1980 until 2013 at the age of 90. She enjoyed the Fraternal Order of Eagles auxiliary 2265 in 1953 in Redford Mich and transferred to Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 4141 after moving to Barton City in 1980.
Florence and the late Russell Geary were married in Mt. Pleasant on June 25, 1960. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years on January 24, 2011, her parents, brother J.D. Shuttleworth, three sisters Glena Beard, Hazel Meyer, and Kathryn Hansen. She is survived by her son Gerald Cameron and two grandchildren Robin Laskowski and Mark Cameron, two great grandchildren Cecelia and Ellie Laskowski, also stepson Robert [Linda] Geary and granddaughter Kimberly [Eric] Long and great granddaughter Kira Long of Henderson KY. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln Mich. Funeral will be Friday, March 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Barton City.
Donations in Florence’s name would be appreciated to Compassus Hospice and Fraternal Order of Eagles 4141.
