Florence Burrows Harrington, 85, of Smyrna, Delaware passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 8, 2025.
Florence was born on March 12, 1939, in Newark, Delaware to the late Hazel Messick Burrows and Helen (Johnson) Burrows. Florence graduated from Newark High School. She was a secretary at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Chicago Bridge and Iron, Newark Baptist Church and was the church clerk at Elon Baptist Church in Pamplin, Virginia.
Florence enjoyed traveling in Europe and the United States. She loved to bake, bringing her favorites to family and church gatherings.
Florence taught Sunday School at a Methodist Church in Evander South Africa, also at First Baptist Church in Rockland, Florida and the Elon Baptist Church in Pamplin, Virginia. She played keyboard in the Keyboard Orchestra in Melbourne, FL. She loved her church family at the Townsend Church and enjoyed the gatherings for events, potluck dinners and worship services each week.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her first husband, James H. Conley, Jr., her second husband of 34 years, Edward Russell Blackburn, her brother, Hazel M. Burrows, Jr., and brother-in-law, John O. Erickson, Sr.
She is survived by her husband of 7 years, Robert "Bob" Harrington, her children, Patricia Ann (Conley) Santmyer (Ken), James H. Conley, III (Dawn), and Barbara Jean (Conley) Ashmead (James), grandchildren, Damian Ashmead (Mallori), Amanda Bousman (Cody), Brittni Ashmead, Shawn Ashmead, and Bradley Conley, great grandchildren: Paxton Ashmead, Zachary Ashmead and Thea Bousman. She is also survived by her sister, Alberta Elizabeth Erickson.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 19th at Townsend Church, 4519 Dupont Pkwy, Townsend, DE 19734. The viewing will be from 10-11 am, the service will begin at 11:00 am. Florence will be laid to rest in Beale Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pamplin, Virginia.
