Florence M. Hoffman

Florence Marie Hoffman, born in Portland, Maine, on August 20, 1935, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. She graduated from Portland High School in 1954, where she met her beloved husband, the late Abraham Bernard Hoffman, who was serving in the Coastguard at the time. In 1955, they moved to Malden,Massachusetts, where they bought their first home on Sammett Street and raised their two sons.
Florence was a devoted mother to her late son, George Thomas Hoffman, and her surviving son, Vance Hoffman, who resides in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1979, Florence and Bernie relocated to Ocala, Florida, where Florence pursued her educational aspirations at Nova Southeastern University. Her hard work and determination led her to earn her Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), her Master's in Business Administration (MBA), and her Registered Nurse (RN) qualification in medical management.
Florence dedicated over three decades of her life to the Marion County Health Department, where she served as a community health nurse consultant from June 1, 1979, until her retirement on June 1, 2012.
A vibrant and active member of her community, Florence loved spending time with friends, whether it was driving to Tampa to enjoy a musical or play or sharing dinner at a friend's home. She was also deeply involved in the boating community, proudly belonging to the boat club for many years. However, her greatest joy came from her family. Florence cherished her children, grandchildren, stepchildren from her second marriage to the late Glen Brumale, and her many adopted children whom she cared for in her home. She found immense happiness in cooking for her loved ones, especially during the holidays, where her home was always filled with laughter, warmth, and delicious aromas.
Florence leaves behind her son, Vance Hoffman; her grandsons, Thomas Scott Hoffman, Vance Hoffman and her great-grandson, Dimatteo Hoffman; her stepchildren step grandchildren and her beloved Susan Amato, whom she always referred to as her daughter.
With a big heart and an unwavering spirit, Florence Marie Dimatteo will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service at Forest Dale Cemetery, 150 Forest Street, Malden on Tuesday August 27th at 11:00am. Please gather inside the front gate of the cemetery.
