Florence Merie Pitts

FLORENCE MERIE PITTS, daughter of the late Howard Press and Myrtle M. Northan Press was born on May 2, 1935 in Accomack County, Virginia. She departed this life on Monday, March 24, 2025 after a lingering illness.
Florence received her education in the public schools of Accomack County. She gave her life to God at an early age and attended church with her mother in Atlantic, Virginia. In later years, she joined Deas Chapel United Methodist Church after moving to Horntown, Virginia. There, she served as an usher and was a faithful member.
Florence worked for years as a domestic worker, but it was not until she became a Home Health Aide that she realized her true passion. She was a hard worker and loved by everyone she served.
Florence was united in holy matrimony to the late Horace Pitts. That union was blessed with eleven children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Pitts; daughter, Kathleen V Press; and sons-in-law, Charles Morris, Wilbert Bostick, John Ellis, and Preston Copes.
Left to cherish her memories are a son, Horace M. Pitts Jr. of Horntown, VA; nine daughters, Judy A. Morris of Easton, MD, Gloria J. Bostick of Durham, NC, Zeltha L. Ellis of Lancaster, PA, Melissa A. Roberson of Balti-more, MD, Linda P. Copes of Horntown, VA, Sally L. Pitts-Rakes (Samuel) of Wilmington, DE, Ellen G. Mar-shall (Melvin) of Temperanceville, VA, Keva M. Pitts of Parksley, VA, and Pauline F. Pitts of Horntown, VA; one sister, Maryanne Fisher of Wallops Island, VA; two brothers, Calvin Press of Pocomoke City, MD and Walter A. Press of Wallops Island, VA; two sisters-in-law, Margie Pitts and Wanda Pitts; two brothers-in-law, Bennie Pitts and Solomon Pitts; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
We stood and saw you suffer, there was nothing we could do, but hold your hand and pray that GOD would take you through. When the Golden Gates swung open, God knew you needed rest, His garden must be beautiful, because He only takes the best.
