Florence was born in Everson, PA to Walter and Stella Polakowski. Florence was raised in Everson and graduated from Scottdale High School in 1948. Her family later moved to Detroit, where she did clerical work for Roadway Transportation. Flo always enjoyed attending sporting events with her father which led to a lifelong love of sports. Flo married Charles Richard (Dick) Soens on May 13, 1950. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary a few months prior to Dick's death in August 2015. Flo stayed at home during the raising of their four children. She later returned to doing clerical work in the healthcare industry.
Flo was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, her husband Dick, and their only son Robert Soens. She is survived by daughters Deborah Keniston (Ken Hackett), Susan Allen and Ann Wolfe (Benjamin); daughter-in-law Diana Soens; grandchildren John Soens (Kori), Justin Soens (Katie), Kimberly Hardee (Kyle), Jeffrey Rambaum, Rebecca Allen, Rachel Allen and Alan Wolfe; and great-grandchildren Blake and Greta Soens (John and Kori), Clara and Luke Soens (Justin and Katie) and Avery and Adelyn Hardee (Kimberly and Kyle).
A service is set for Monday, March 13, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, St. Petersburg, FL 33708 in the gazebo near the Columbariums where Florence will be inurned with Dick.

My deep sympathy to the family for the loss of Florence. I miss her also at our Catholic Service at The Crossings. There is an empty spot where she sat, and an empty spot in my heart. Florence was one of the longest term Catholic service residents and I knew her the best. Florence loved to share stories about her family and always had us all praying for a family member in need. Her faith was unwavering and I know she is in heaven. We talked often in the last year about her being ready to go to heaven, but heaven wasn't ready for her yet. I knew when I talked with her, that she would speak her mind, and her "bit of a cynic" sense of humor always made me laugh. I had to make a decision about whether to attend her funeral and miss my volunteering at the food pantry. It was a difficult decision as I wanted to say my good bye, but then I thought about what Florence would say... and she would say, I'm already home with my husband and you should go to work. I did get to hug her and tell her I loved her at the last Service she attended. I don't say that to all the residents.....Florence was special.
