Florene Barry Hirsch

Florene Barry Hirsch, 95, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.

Mrs. Hirsch was born April 10, 1930 in North Plainfield, NJ to the late William J. and Sarah T. Barry. She was also preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Thomas Hirsch, brother, William J. Barry, Jr., grandson, Fred Hirsch and great-grandson, Bryant Pietrusza.

Florene graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1946 and went on to Berkeley School of Business in East Orange, NJ, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, she worked for Fieldcrest in NYC. After marriage, she started her family and reared six children. A job change for Tom in1968 relocated the family to Laurel, MD. In 1969, she returned to the workforce in the DC Metro area, ultimately retiring in 1989 from The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Retirement led to a move to Murrells Inlet, SC, where she and Tom enjoyed the warmer climate and working on their golf games, her gardens, as well as other social activities, bridge, reading, volunteer work and travel. The past 4.5 years, she has resided at Morningside of Concord Assisted Living. Her greatest joy was always being in the company of her children and their families, whether visiting them or entertaining them at home.

Survivors include children, Barbara H. Malkin of Midland, NC; Thomas J. (Suzanne) Hirsch of Chesapeake, VA; Patricia A. (Joseph) Butco of Kannapolis, NC; John W. (Jacqueline) Hirsch of Tampa, FL, Eileen H. (Kirk) Moffatt of Glen Burnie, MD and Kevin J. (Cheryl) Hirsch of Punta Gorda, FL; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Morningside of Concord and the Tucker Hospice House for their care and empathy.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 11:00 am following Visitation at 10:30 am at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, Concord, NC with interment at the National Veterans’ Cemetery in Florence, SC beside her husband, Thomas on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 1:00 pm.

Memorials may be made in Florene’s name to Tucker Hospice House, 5005 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or a charity of your choice.
