Florine Joy Burkhard

Florine Joy Copley Burkhard, 88, of Lower Macungie Township, the second child of the late Florence Boyer and Francis Copley, passed away peacefully in her home on October 16, 2025. Florine was born in Mount Pleasant, PA and after several moves, the family settled in Claymont, Delaware. Florine attended Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA, graduated in 1955 and entered Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from Fitzgerald in 1958.

She joined the Air Force, where she met her husband, Edward J. Burkhard, Jr., M.D., and they were married in 1963. They moved to Allentown in 1967. The family became members of St. Thomas More Parish, Allentown, in 1967 where Florine was active in the church ministries in her early years. She was also a member of the Lower Macungie Garden Club and sang in the Active Life Chorus.

Florine loved God, her family, friends, and all creatures great and small. She felt blessed and grateful.

Florine was predeceased by her brother, Bill Copley, and her two nephews, Bill, Jr. and Jerome Copley.

She is survived by husband, Edward, and daughter, Becky; her sister, Elizabeth Honnold; sister, Mary Jane Copley; Sister-in-law, Trudy Copley.

Services: Memorial Mass 11 AM Monday, November 3, 2025 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Avenue, Allentown. A calling hour will be held from 10-11 AM Monday in the church.
