URBANA – Floyd M. Holycross, 81 of Urbana, passed away early Monday morning, Feb. 10, 2025 at Springfield Mercy Regional Hospital.
One of five children, Floyd was born Aug. 20, 1943 at the family home in Milford Center to the late Lowell and Mildred (Coe) Holycross. After graduating from Fairbanks High School, he married Helen (McNutt), beginning 61 years of love. He worked and retired from Navistar International in Springfield.
Floyd was a 5-year cancer survivor. Sadly, he succumbed to his latest illness. To those who knew Floyd, his stubbornness was prevalent in him, and he fought until the very end. His favorite activity was enjoying family meals together at a restaurant or family BBQs. He also enjoyed watching sports and completing word search books.
To show his stubbornness, once Floyd was declared cancer-free, he was determined to fly to Florida for a family vacation. Even though the world was starting to shut down due to COVID, Floyd's determination did not deter him. No virus was going to stop him from spending time with Helen and his daughters.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen; their children, Karen (George) Clickenger of Columbus; Debbie (Gantt) of Cleveland; grandchild Travis (Samantha); grand-dogs Taco and Lilly; sibling Kay (Dave) Strobel; sister-in-law Gracie Holycross; and several nieces and nephews, church family and friends.
Along with his parents, Floyd was also preceded in death by siblings, Melvin Holycross, Betty Stockman, and Charlotte Gorton.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17 at JENNINGS FARLEY AND SEELEY FUNERAL HOME, 5591 U.S. 68, West Liberty, Ohio, where funeral services to celebrate Floyd's life will begin promptly at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jeremy Sarver presiding. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Union County Foundation for the Blake Gorton Memorial Scholarship Fund or to the Union Chapel Community Church.
