Floyd Powell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Adcock Funeral Home - Spring Lake on Jan. 20, 2026.
Floyd Wayne Powell, age 78, of Lillington, North Carolina, passed away on January 17, 2026.

Born on June 28, 1947, in Harnett County, North Carolina, Floyd was the son of the late James Floyd Powell and Inez Byrd Powell. He was a lifelong resident of Harnett County, where he was well known and respected in the community. He was a graduate of Anderson Creek School Class of 1965 and then was drafted and served 2 years in the United States Army. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hosting community barbecues, and racing cars.

Wayne spent his life working with his hands and his heart. He was an avid gardener and lifelong farmer who found joy in tending the land and sharing the fruits of his labor with others. Friends, family, and neighbors were often blessed by the vegetables he proudly grew and freely gave, a reflection of his generous spirit and humble nature.

In addition to farming, Wayne was a dedicated electrician. Over the years, he worked at CP&L, Campbell University, and later as the owner and operator of Wayne Powell Electric. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to help whenever needed.

Wayne's faith was the foundation of his life. He was a devoted member of Union Methodist Church, where he was actively involved in the Brothers in Christ (BIC) Bible Study group. He faithfully served in many ways-helping care for the church grounds by planting azaleas and flowers, mowing, giving of his time to the annual harvest sale and the Men's Fish Fry, picking up food for the UMC food pantry, and assisting with food distribution. Wayne deeply loved his church and its people, finding great purpose in serving the Lord and his community.

At home, Wayne found constant companionship and joy in his beloved beagle, Sweetie, who was never far from his side and held a special place in his heart.

Wayne will be remembered for his kindness, quiet service, strong faith, and the way he gave of himself without hesitation. His life was a testament to the simple, powerful truth that serving others is one of the greatest callings of all.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years, Aurora "Audrey" M. Powell; a brother-in-law, Stanley Brown, a stepson, Calvin Hitchcock; and two grandchildren, Alex Hitchcock, and Christopher Brown.

Wayne is survived by his sister, Gail Powell Brown; three stepdaughters and one stepson: Tami Tokarchick, Lorraine Brown (Tom Heindl), Bruce Doughty (Erin), and Tina Rogers. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Brian Hitchcock, Wayne Hitchcock, Daniel Hitchcock, Amanda Cicatelli, Jonathan Doughty, Kathleen Doughty, and Casey Rogers; and three great-grandchildren: Dylan Sauls, Dominic Cicatelli, and Antonio Cicatelli; special nieces: Leslie Brown Pope (Jon Pope) and Jill Brown Sebastian (Shane Sebastian) and 5 great-nieces: Sarah Pope, Emily Pope, Julia Sebastian, Jenna Sebastian, Sadie Sebastian, and 1 great-nephew, Adam Pope.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Union Methodist Church.

A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m., with burial immediately following the service at the church.

Memorial Contributions in Wayne's memory may be made to Union Methodist Church, 2212 Nursery Road, Lillington, NC 27546.
