Floyd E. Spoor

Mineral Point – Floyd E. Spoor, a man renowned for his extraordinary generosity and unwavering kindness, peacefully embraced eternal rest on Saturday, December 16, 2023, alongside his adoring wife at their home. He was born on October 4, 1949, to Floyd and Doris Spoor and grew up across various places in Northern Indiana before settling in Lowell, IN during his junior year of high school, where he found his soulmate.
On August 28, 1971, Floyd married the love of his life, Claudia (Luebcke). Their journey together led them through Purdue University, where they lived in married student housing while pursuing their degrees. Floyed loved playing handball while in college and enjoyed playing in softball leagues after graduation and throughout his life. From there, Floyd ventured into teaching shop class at Camden-Frontier School in Michigan.
Floyd deeply loved his in-laws, who embraced him wholeheartedly, offering unwavering love and support. Their legacy continues to resonate within the Spoor family, a testament to the profound impact of their
relationship with Floyd.
Floyd cherished moments spent fishing, hunting, playing cards, and woodworking alongside Claudia, relishing time with family and friends. His dedication to helping others extended into his Tech Ed classes, where he imparted knowledge in welding, woodworking, mechanical drawings, small gas engines, graphic art, autobody, and metalworking. Remarkably, in his spare time, he even taught welding to convicts in Michigan, undeterred by the challenges.
Floyd and Claudia welcomed two sons into their family and moved to Kenosha, WI, where Floyd taught graphic arts and printing at Bullen JR High. Soon after, Floyd received a teaching job in Mineral Point, WI and moved his family there to make a home. They found the perfect house, that only needed a "little work". Together as a family, they made that house a home and met many amazing people in their community that they now call friends.
He immersed himself in sports, coaching baseball, football, basketball, and track, discovering his true passion in wrestling. His selflessness and dedication led to multiple recognitions and inductions into the wrestling hall of fame, a testament to his commitment to nurturing young talents. Floyd took immense pride in running the VICA club in Mineral Point, fostering a community where, at times, over half of the student body became club members. His passion for education led him to organize fundraisers, providing students with enriching opportunities like trips and Super Bowl parties.
After retiring from Mineral Point, Floyd continued teaching Technical Education at Darlington High School, remaining dedicated to shaping young minds.
Beyond education and sports, Floyd and Claudia's love for dogs blossomed into Sleepy Valley Kennels, LLC., a venture that reflected their enduring passion. Their dedication to serving the community was honored when they were recognized as Mineral Point's Citizens of the Year. Floyd was also recognized as the Walmart Teacher of the Year, and the ADRC Teacher of the Year,
However, Floyd's deepest joy lay in his grandchildren. In retirement, he wholeheartedly devoted himself to creating cherished moments with them, imparting invaluable lessons and values. You could find him dancing with them, shopping to pass time, playing any sports, teaching them to line draw and operate all the tools for woodworking, dog chores, driving through the fields, fishing at Lake Joy, hunting gophers, or getting into some kind of project with any one of them. Throughout the years, Floyd has shared memorable quotes like "It's almost Friday," "Are the boys coming today?" and a timeless reminder that "Choices have Consequences." Floyd's legacy also includes teaching his children not to say, "I Can't,".
During the summer you would find him enjoying his second true love, the Cubs! He also enjoyed anything car related and attended several car shows and his favorite was restoring his 1963 Chevy Impala with his family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM and on Friday from 9:30 until 10:50 AM all at the HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Mineral Point. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH. Pastor Kate Kieckhafer will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery following.A luncheon will be held at the Quality Inn in Mineral Point following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Floyd Spoor Benefit Fund at Farmers Savings Bank (305 Doty Street, Mineral Point, WI) to be used for a scholarship in memory of Floyd or Upland Hills Hospice.
Floyd's legacy lives on through his devoted wife Claudia of 52 years; his two sons: Eric (Tiffany) Neenah; and Andy (Jackie) Mineral Point; his five grandchildren: Ellen, Allison, Lydia, Blake, and Beckett. Brothers and sisters: Jeannine (Don) Curtis, Lowell IN; Ray (Cathy) Spoor, Williston FL; Nancy Spoor, Manistee MI; Ralph (Teri) Spoor Manistee, MI; Bill (Cindy) Spoor Crown Point IN; Bob (Cindy) Spoor, Hammond IN; Tom (Lorena) Spoor, Platteville WI; sister-in-law, Sue and Dave Stamm, Anamosa IA and brother-in-law Dan (Rebecca Smith) Luebcke, Sierra Vista AZ. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Doris Spoor, father Floyd Spoor, sisters Clarice Tryon, Dorothy (Cookie) Austin, his father-in-law Wilfried Luebcke, and his mother-in-law Anne Luebcke.
Floyd Spoor was a remarkable individual whose kindness and generosity touched us all deeply, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless lives. He showed us the true essence of how people should treat one another, and for that, we are forever grateful.
