Floyd Stenquist

 

Layton, Utah – Floyd Stenquist, 91, passed away April 3rd, 2023, surrounded by his family. We mourn his passing but are blessed by the love he has shown us and the example he set.

Floyd was born October 23rd, 1931, in Bear River City, Utah, to Dorothea Johanna Borg and William Leander Stenquist. His siblings are Lee, Bill, Milt, Larry, Gloria and Gary.

Floyd grew up working on the family farm on the Iowa String in Tremonton. He also helped with farming on neighboring and extended family’s farms. Floyd learned to work hard and to give his best effort. These traits served him well throughout his life. He learned the value of friends and family, and the power of teamwork. Baseball, basketball, and swimming were activities Floyd enjoyed in his youth, but his favorite sport, by far, was skiing. He was a great skier and loved to spend the day on the slopes. He continued to ski until he was 82 years old.

Floyd was proud of his Swedish heritage. Both of his parents emigrated from Sweden. Floyd graduated from Bear River High School. Following his graduation he joined the Air Force and served his country during the Korean Conflict.

Floyd married his eternal companion, Neone Andersen, 11 June, 1953, in the Logan Temple.  They made their first home in Spokane, Washington, where Floyd was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base as a Flight Engineer. Floyd enjoyed his time in the Air Force and had many unique experiences. Floyd and Neone then moved to Garland, Utah. Later they purchased a home in Layton, Utah, when Floyd accepted a job at Hill Air Force Base.  He had a successful career in Material Management.

Floyd was a farm boy at heart, and though his career took him from the farm, he still loved to drive a tractor around the grape vineyard in Layton. Floyd kept an impeccable yard. He knew how to put a good landscaping plan in place.

Floyd served faithfully in many leadership capacities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Bishop, Stake President, and as a counselor in the Ogden Temple Presidency. He and Neone served missions to Sweden and to the Nauvoo Temple. They made many friends and had choice experiences as they served. Dad caught the family history bug after he gave up skiing. Many thanks to Osa and Nadine, who helped him with his family history.

Floyd enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed going on trips with friends and spending time in Island Park. He liked to share stories from his life with his family.

Floyd set an amazing example for us to follow. He did his best to serve God and his fellowmen. We are so blessed by his love and are grateful for our memories of him and the time we had together. We love you! You will be deeply missed.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of Enhabit Hospice, specifically Tammy and Miller, for their compassionate care and kindness toward our family and Floyd.

Floyd is survived by a daughter: DeAnn (Dale) Fonnesbeck, and son: Jerry Lynn (Patricia) Stenquist. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and (28) great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held April 7, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at the Layton Lindquist Mortuary, located at 1867 N. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. A visitation will also be held on April 8, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30 am, at the Wasatch Chapel which is located at 789 Wasatch Drive in Layton. The funeral will follow at 11:00 am.
