Forrest Loutzenhiser Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Kempsville Chapel on Dec. 12, 2025.
Forrest "Fuzzy" Loutzenhiser, 86, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A man of unwavering faith and deep devotion to his family and country, Forrest lived a life marked by service, love, and purpose.
Born on January 28, 1939, in Elkhart, Indiana, Forrest was raised with strong values that would guide him throughout his life. From an early age, he embraced his Christian faith, attending tent revivals as a child and continuing to worship through gospel singings and ministry well into his senior years.
Forrest began his lifelong commitment to service by enlisting in the United States Navy in 1956. After completing four years of honorable service, he briefly worked for Greyhound from 1960 to 1961 before joining the United States Air Force. He served with distinction from 1961 until his retirement in 1977. During his military career, Forrest was deployed with boots on the ground in Vietnam-a testament to his courage and dedication.
Following his military retirement, Forrest continued to share his knowledge and passion by working as an electronics instructor at ECPI for two years. In 1983, he answered a higher calling and became an ordained minister. Alongside his beloved wife Carolyn and father-in-law Henry Callahan, Forrest dedicated himself fully to ministry work. Whether preaching on street corners or bringing comfort through sermons in nursing homes, he found joy in spreading the word of God with Carolyn and their children by his side.
Forrest's life was deeply rooted in faith and family. He is survived by four sons: Jeff, Robert, Mark, and Steven; three daughters-in-law: Sherry, Charlene, and Cherine; as well as an army of grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife Carolyn; his mother Juanita Kline; father Arthur Loutzenhiser; brothers Calvin, Eugene, and Garth; sister-in-law Linda; grandfather George W. Kline; grandmother Osie Fern Rinehart Kline; father-in-law Henry Callahan; mother-in-law Edna Jones Callahan; and daughter-in-law Patricia Jordal.
In addition to his professional accomplishments and spiritual leadership, Forrest had a passion for travel and a love for working on models and electronics-interests that reflected both his curiosity about the world and his meticulous nature.
Above all else, Forrest lived as a Christian soldier-steadfast in faith from childhood through every chapter of life. His legacy is one of devotion: to God first, then to family and country. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were blessed to know him.
May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 18, 2025 at Hollomon-Brown, Kempsville Chapel, beginning at 1PM. A Graveside service will begin at 3PM immediately following at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Life.
