Frances "Ruth" Arnzen, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded in her final days by loving family. Admitted to the hospital on May 21 with a failing body but a strong spirit, Ruth gave everything she had to stay just a little longer. Her family believes Heaven simply couldn't wait any more for her warmth and light. With grace and dignity, Ruth was placed on comfort care at 10 a.m. and slipped away at 1 p.m., holding the hands of her devoted daughter Barbara Casey and granddaughter Amanda Casey. In her final days, she was lovingly cared for by her son Robert Henderson, son-in-law Chris Casey, Pastor Johnny Hampton, and the extraordinary team at St. Alphonsus, whose compassion did not go unnoticed.
Ruth's life was one of deep love, joy, and connection. She was known for her ability to turn ordinary days into cherished memories and strangers into friends. She was the heart of her family, never asking for much beyond time together. Her favorite memory, one she spoke of often, was getting a picture with all five of her grandchildren-a simple moment that meant the world to her.
Born on March 19, 1946, in Kamiah, Idaho, to Jackson and Irene Bennett, Ruth grew up with strong values rooted in faith, love, and education. A passionate teacher, she spent more than 30 years shaping young minds as a substitute in Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington. Even after retirement, she couldn't stay away-volunteering in second-grade classrooms, which she lovingly deemed the "sweet spot" of childhood.
Ruth was also a caregiver to her mother, Irene, offering the same selfless love she gave so freely to everyone. And of course, her furry companions, especially her beloved dog Gracie, brought her daily joy.
Ruth had a spirit that lit up a room. She adored Elvis Presley-collecting memorabilia, singing along to every tune, and keeping his memory alive even as her own began to fade. Despite advancing dementia in recent years, she still remembered every lyric. Her affection was as constant as her signature phrases-"Love you, Hun" could always be counted on. She was known for her playful sense of humor, sweet curiosity, and genuine care for others-often asking, with a twinkle in her eye, "What's your favorite dessert?"
Ruth is survived by her sister Sheron Porter; brothers Dave and Tom Bennett; her uncle, Gary Bennett; her son, Robert Henderson; her daughter, Barbara Casey; and her grandchildren Robbie Henderson, Amanda Casey, Christian Henderson, and Bryton Henderson. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry forward her legacy of joy, compassion, and unwavering love. She is preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Jackson Casey, and her parents, Jackson and Irene Bennett.
A celebration of Ruth's life will take place on Saturday, June 28 at 10 a.m. at Tree City Church of the Nazarene, 3852 Eagle Rd,
Meridian, Idaho. Attendees are invited to wear her favorite color, blue, and honor her memory with sweet stories and sweeter treats-her favorite food group-at an ice cream social following the service. A separate graveside service will be held in Weippe, Idaho on August 9.
Though our hearts ache, we find comfort knowing Ruth has found peace and eternal light. Her love continues to shine in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
