Frances Bernice “Bunny” Buchanan 77 of Elizabeth, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday June 8th, 2025 at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. She was born to the late James “Frank” Hulse and Nellie Price Hulse on November 10th, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Known then as Mrs. Wibbels, she was a dedicated teacher who taught generations of third graders at the old Elizabeth Grade School and South Central Elementary. After retiring from teaching, she returned to the classroom as a Title I assistant for many years. She loved to collect recipes even though she hated to cook, loved a good true crime show before bed, but most of all she loved her grandchildren, to whom she was known as “Nana.”
She was preceded in death by her parents (Nellie in 2003 and James in 2010). She is survived by her loving husband of twenty-five years Dr. Garry Buchanan, her daughter Lori Ann Mieure and her husband Eric of Zionsville and her son Bill Wibbels and his wife Mindy of Elizabeth and her brother Dee Hulse and his wife Paula of Georgetown.
She was a loving “Nana” to her grandchildren: Benjamin (Courtney), Ellie and Megan Wibbels and Henry, Jarrett and Evelyn Mieure.
Cremation was chosen and there will be a private service at a later date. The family of Frances Buchanan would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Norton’s Hospital for their compassionate and outstanding care during her brief illness.
