Frances I Jones Byrne passed away on May 19, 2025, at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center.
She was born on January 15, 1935, to Vassie C Jones and Rev Dallas L Jones in Madison FL.
Frances and family moved to Lakeland FL after her graduation from Umatilla High School in 1953. Her father retired from the FL Conf of the United Methodist Church after many years of service.
Frances was an employee of the City of Lakeland Electric and Water for 34 years, followed by five years of part time employment for the City of Lakeland HR Dept.
Frances was a volunteer to many Lakeland charities including the American Heart Assoc, Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine, and College Heights United Methodist Church. She was also a volunteer in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
She joined College Heights UMC in 1955 and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also active at the Lakeland YMCA for many years.
She had many hobbies including cooking, collecting cookbooks, cards, crossword puzzles, and raising African Violets. She made wonderful pies and loved to go to New York to shop and see Broadway shows.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward C Byrne, daughter Carol Joy Lewis, son Martan Momane and her five sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Judith D Canady (Ronald) and grandchildren Robin Murphy (Scott), Clinton Hattaway, Sidney Hattaway, Jimmy Hattaway, six great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday May 24, 2025, at 10:00 at College Heights UMC, Lakeland, followed by service at 11:00 and burial at Oak Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Residing Hope (fka FL United Methodist Children’s Home), 51 Children’s Way, Enterprise FL 32725.
