With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Frances Escalante of Giddings, TX who
died at age 74, on Monday, June 17, 2024.
A service celebrating Frances's life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 21, 2024, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings where friends and family are invited to remember and celebrate her life. Burial will follow at the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. A rosary will be recited Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frances (Vasquez) Escalante was born on September 16, 1949, in Caldwell, Texas to Santos and Lena (Martinez) Vasquez. She grew up in Caldwell and graduated from Caldwell High School. She was married to John Escalante and they were blessed with five children. Frances worked for Giddings ISD for 20 years with her last position being a Bilingual Pre-K teacher assistant. Working with the children was a passion close to her heart. Every child she worked with was treated with love and care as if they were hers. Frances enjoyed antique shopping, listening to music, dancing, and working in her garden. Most of all, she loved hosting her family for the holidays and preparing special meals. Those who knew her best were gifted with her wit and humor. Frances was knowledgeable and passionate about current events and environmental issues.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Santos and Lena Vasquez; her husband, John Escalante; her son, John Nicholas Escalante; and her brother, Jesse Vasquez.
Frances is survived by her children, John Escalante and partner Chris Lavina of Maine, Lisa Escalante of Austin, Catherine Escalante of Austin, and Stephanie Escalante and husband Ramiro Alvarado of Pflugerville; one grandson, Ethan Hollon of Pflugerville; six siblings, Nieves and husband Tony Camacho of Irving, Alice Lopez of Austin, Vicki Martinez of Austin, Susie Vasquez and Greg Coates of Georgetown, Veronica Vasquez of Austin, and Mary Jane Vasquez of Florida, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Contributions to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, a cause close to her heart, are appreciated.
