North Augusta, SC – Graveside Services for Frances Elizabeth Fetner Stevenson, 105, who entered into rest September 21, 2024, will be conducted this Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Lebanon Cemetery, Winnsboro, SC. The Reverend Doctor Bunny Simon Williams officiating.
Mrs. Stevenson was born May 23, 1919, in Charleston, SC to Francis and Martha Fetner. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Mrs. Stevenson owned Frances Stevenson School of Dance and was a member of the Dance Educators of America. Throughout her dance career there were many highlights including being one of the original dancers to take the Columbia originated dance known as the "the Big Apple" to New York where she performed in the Roxy Theater, the Rainbow Room, the Stork Club and Arthur Murray's. She was awarded "Best Swing Dancer" by Paul Whiteman and his orchestra and was offered a professional dance contract in New York City. Mrs. Stevenson was recognized in 1993 by the South Carolina State Legislature for bringing recognition to the Carolinas and to swing dancing. She was a longtime member of the Carolina Hills Garden Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Stevenson; son, Mack Stevenson, Jr.; a sister, Cary Conner; a brother, William Fetner.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Stevenson and Martha Stevenson; granddaughters, Marisa Barth and Maura Baxter; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Stevenson; Four nieces, Terry Fyne, Marla Mitchell, Julie Fleury and Kay Mitchell; two nephews, Blats Conner and Aubrey Mitchell.
The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
The family would like to thank Empyrean Hospice and Amy Inman for their compassionate care. The family also wishes to extend many thanks to Dr. and Mrs. William J. Thurmond for their care, love and support over the years.
