Frances Marie Garrett, 99, passed away on October 29, 2025, at Washington County Nursing Home. She was born on January 11, 1926, in Putnam, Alabama, to her parents Eli Malcom and Vera Gray Downey Anderson.
Frances was a beloved mother, devoted homemaker, and cherished member of the community. She will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, always serving as a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and instilling in them the values of faith and love. A long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson, Alabama, Frances enriched the lives of many as she taught Girls in Action (GAs), instilling in her students a deep understanding of service and compassion. She also enjoyed singing in the senior choir with her friends.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert Garrett, and infant daughter. Also her siblings; Mary Morrison and Don Anderson.
She is survived by her sons, Al (Jo Ann) Garrett, John Garrett; daughter, Meg (Bob) Upton; grandsons, Dow (Bethany) Walker, Garrett (Amber) Walker, and four great-grandchildren; Leyton Walker, Wells Walker, Brodie Walker, and Nellie Brooke Walker, also numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery at 11:00 AM on November 1, 2025, with Bro. Brian Jemison officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of Frances, honoring her life and the impact she had on all who were privileged to know her.
