Frances M. Gnegy, 91, of Oakland, passed away on March 28, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family. Born on July 28, 1932, in Turner Douglas, WV, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Mabel (Duel) Friend.
She was a graduate of Oakland High School. She was married to Troy Gnegy, the love of her life, for over 60 years and who preceded her in death. Frances was a deaconess at Faith Evangelical Free Church. She was a member of the Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the former Garrett Memorial Hospital Board. Frances enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, reading in the sun, listening to Alan Jackson, playing with her great grandchildren, and anything where she could be barefoot outside. She and Troy loved traveling around the world.
She is survived by her four children, Stephen Gnegy and wife Brenda, Thomas Gnegy, Cheryl Gnegy, all of Oakland, and Cynthia Gnegy of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren, Katherine Shadel and husband Andrew of Oakland, Hannah Upole and husband Doug of Cookeville, TN, Zachariah Litsinger of Selma, NC, and Clint Gnegy Davidson and wife Ashley of Grande Prairie, TX; four great grandchildren, Senna and Callan Shadel of Oakland, Landon and Lainey Gnegy Davidson of Grande Prairie, TX; and a sister, Ann Tolliver of Herndon, WV.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Jacquelynn Gnegy; seven siblings, Tillie Bowser, Vera Thorn, Ruth Lyons Fike, Otis Friend, Glenwood "Bud" Friend, Donald Friend, and Jim Friend.
Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM and on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM at the Faith Church, 1009 Maryland Highway, Oakland. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11 AM with Abe and Gail Getty and Pastor Jeff Kroll officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
