Mrs. Frances Johnson Henderson, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the venerable age of 95. Born on August 21, 1929, in
Covington, GA, she navigated the ebb and flow of life with grace and resilience, informed by her unwavering faith and passion for her family and community.
Mrs. Henderson was a loving wife to the late Clarence R. Henderson, Sr., and nurtured her family with the same devotion she had shown throughout their years together. Her compassionate nature extended to her children, Clarice Henderson Dozier, David Henderson (Sandy), Deborah Henderson Robertson (Wayne), the late Clarence R. Henderson, Jr. and Mary Ann Henderson Darby (Ernie), and was further amplified in her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who recall her fondly as the cornerstone of their family.
The roots of Frances' life are traced back to her beloved parents, Curtis Lee and Nellie Steele Johnson, and the warmth she received and reflected is a testament to their legacy. Her journey of life continued to be intertwined with that of her siblings, the late June Johnson Rowland and Diane Johnson Wren, and the shared memories remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
She was a proud graduate of Covington High School, Class of '44. Mrs. Henderson spent her life caring for others and the community she loved. Mr. and Mrs. Henderson, along with their devoted family, operated Henderson's Restaurant for many years and still to this day own Henderson's Grocery and Service Station. She was a very successful businesswoman and entrepreneur.
A lifelong member of High Point Baptist Church, Frances found solace and strength in her faith from the tender age of 13. Her love for the outdoors was unmistakable as she found joy in the simple pleasure of tending to her garden. She reveled in cooking, forever ready to share her culinary delights with others, and embraced quality time with her family, which she held sacred.
The epitome of a true southern lady, Mrs. Henderson was always impeccably dressed, her hair styled gracefully, and makeup applied flawlessly, mirroring the care she invested in every facet of her life. Those who knew Mrs. Henderson will remember a woman who was the embodiment of loving, faith-filled, and passionate vitality, enriching the lives of all around her.
Frances Johnson Henderson's journey may have reached its sunset, but the light of her spirit will forever gleam in the cherished memories and the lives she touched. Her enduring love story continues through her expansive lineage, with beloved daughter Clarice, sons David and wife Sandy, Deborah and husband Wayne, Dolores the widow of the late Clarence Jr. and husband Richard, and Mary Ann and husband Ernie; her doting grandchildren, Greg Dozier (Stephanie), Kelly Dozier, Asher Dozier (Karen), Phillip Henderson (Carmen), Matthew Henderson, Maria Hargrove (Craig), Alisha Stowe (Matt), Steven Robertson (Jessica), Stacie Smith, Bryan Henderson (Tabitha), Chris Henderson (Ashley),Ernie Darby, Jr., Morgan Darby, and Amanda Heinz (Adam), great-grandchildren, Kinsley Dozier, Payton Dozier, Will Dozier, Caroline Dozier, Sydney Henderson, Isabella Henderson, Houston Henderson, Cohen Hargrove, Gable Hargrove, Jobe Hargrove, Cassy Stowe, Alexa Stowe, Austin Taylor, Baylee Pace, Jordan Pace, Cade Robertson, Cam Robertson, Madison Smith, Braydon Smith, Reece Henderson, Lily Henderson, Addie Henderson, Liam Heinz, and Ethan Heinz, and great-great-grandchildren, Colter Smith, Billeigh Smith, and Paisley Pace, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Her wisdom, warmth, and unconditional love will remain as guiding stars for generations to come.
A funeral service for Mrs. Henderson will be held at 3 o'clock, Monday, July 21, 2025, at High Point Baptist Church with Reverend Steven Adams, Darrell Huckaby, and James R. "Pete" Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Monday prior to the service. J.C.
