Frances Onita Kimbrell

Frances "Onita" Buchanan Kimbrell, 83, of Pinetta, FL, went to her eternal home to be with Jesus on September 7, 2025. She went peacefully in her sleep with only the one person by her side to whom she meant the most.

Born on November 26, 1941 in Pinetta, FL, to Gordon "Clarence" Buchanan & Valley "Vaniah" Gaston Buchanan, she was quiet & shy girl up into adulthood but could not contain her joy when around children. She loved them and kept several in her home while the parents were out working. She never considered it "work", however, due to the love she had for each and every one. She was patient, gentle, and had a natural motherly instinct. Along with babysitting, she also enjoyed teaching VBS, Training Union, and teaching young children songs about Jesus. She, along with her family, also loved to travel, camp, and walk trails, visiting many of the state parks and wonders of the world such as Carlsbad Caverns, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and once travelled into Canada to see Niagra Falls.

Onita was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Carl Kimbrell; a sister, Letha Buchanan Hicks; and her two brothers, Gerald Pierce Buchanan and Clinton Buchanan.

She is survived by: her son, Greg Kimbrell, of Cross City, FL; her daughter, Kay Kimbrell-Scott, of Pinetta; a sister, Clare Van Williams, of Clyattville, GA; a grandson, William Henry Hughes (Amanda); 2 granddaughters, Brittanie Kimbrell Farrell (Ryan), of Broken Arrow, OK, and Brooke Kimbrell Lowdermilk (Jonathan), of Asheville, NC; 2 great-granddaughters, Avery Layla & Kinslee Grace; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday September 13, 2025 in Mt. Horeb Community Cemetery in Pinetta with Bro. Tommy Bussey officiating. A meal will follow at Pinetta First Baptist Church for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Big Bend Hospice. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
