Mrs. Frances T. Long, age 88, a resident of Rockwood, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville, Tennessee with her family by her side. She was born November 16, 1936, in Rockwood, Tennessee. Mrs. Frances was a faithful member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Rockwood for over 77 years, becoming a member in 1948. She served at the church in many capacities over the years including Chief Financial Officer for over 19 years, Deacon, Elder, and Elder Emeritus. She also taught Sunday School and was active in the Women’s Guild. She was also a former Boy Scout Leader at First Christian Church and a former officer with the Rockwood High School Band Booster Club. She was a 1954 graduate of Rockwood High School and attended Roane State Community College 1983-1993 studying various courses, primarily in the Accounting program. Mrs. Long had a tremendous work ethic, a quality she instilled in her children, and which led to a long and tenured career, mostly serving in the Payroll, Accounting, and Human Resources Departments, and finally retiring as Comptroller of Roane County E-911. Her places and years of service are as follows: B.J. Lamb Texaco (1953-1955); Farm & Town Store (Rockwood) (1957-1959) and (1961-1964); Burlington/Kayser Roth Textile Mill (1964-1989); Michael Dunn (1989); Hertel (1989-1994); and Roane County E-911 (1994-2019). In 2022 she was recognized and honored by the Roane County Executive and the Roane County Commission as a “Roane County Treasure”. Most of all, she dearly loved her family and all of the friends that she made throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Mary Trammell; daughter, Deborah Long; sisters, Pauline Kindred and Jane T. Pierce; and brother, Jack Trammell.

Former Son-in-law: Mike Grigsby of Hattiesburg, MS
Grandchildren: Michael L. Grigsby of Hattiesburg, MS
S.J. Snipes III (Jeannie) of Rockwood, TN
Chase Snipes of Rockwood, TN
Great Grandchildren: Isaiah Snipes (Annabelle), Joshua Snipes, Kynleigh Snipes, Elijah Snipes, and Tymber Snipes
Great-Great Granddaughter: Marleigh Marie Snipes
Sister: Joan T. Woodall of Rockwood, TN
“Adopted Son”: Mike Hooks of Kingston, TN
And several special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.
There will be a gathering of Family and Friends on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ; 328 W. Rockwood Street; Rockwood, TN 37854. A private Graveside service and interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, Tennessee at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ; P.O. Box 45; Rockwood, TN 37854 (marked on memo as memorial). Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, Tennessee is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Frances T. Long.
