Frances Ann "Fran" McCash, 87, of Port Matilda, died Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born July 29, 1935, Fran was the 8th of nine children of William and Frances Moulder of Southwest Philadelphia. When Fran was approximately 15 years old, the Moulders moved from southwest Philadelphia, to Fernwood, a neighborhood of Upper Darby, PA. It was there that she met her future husband, John McCash (Jack). When it came time for Jack's senior prom, he worked up the courage to ask his new next door neighbor Fran to be his date, and she accepted. From that point onward they were always a couple.
Fran graduated from John Bartram High School in 1953, and soon secured a position in the accounting firm of Quinlan and Company. After Jack finished his service in the Navy, they were married in the spring of 1957. The couple eventually bought their first home in Secane, PA, and subsequently adopted Edward William McCash in the summer of 1963, and on Fran's birthday in July of 1964 Lynn Ann Mullin was delivered to them (and subsequently adopted).
Soon they moved their new family into a home that Jack helped to build in Havertown, PA. They would live in that home for the next 52 years.
Fran had quit her job so that she could stay home with the kids, but when they grew older she started working at the Haverford Township Middle School, and eventually became the secretary to the school principal. She retired from the middle school in 1994, in part, to assist with the care of grandchildren.
Fran had many hobbies and interests over the years including square dancing, knitting, sewing, gardening and traveling. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. In the spring of 2020 Jack and Fran downsized to a ranch style home in State College, just around the corner from Ed and Nancy. Last week, Fran's health deteriorated rapidly, and she passed from this earth with family members at her side.
Fran was preceded in death by all 8 of her siblings: David Moulder, William Moulder, Howard (Reds) Moulder, Margaret Ream, Doris Striewski, Mary Hannig, Florence (Flossy) Steinmetz, and Joan Roeseberg.
Fran is survived by her loving husband Jack, son Ed and his wife Nancy, and daughter Lynn along with their four grandchildren: Lynn's daughter Jennifer Mullin of West Chester, and Ed and Nancy's children: Olivia of Columbus OH, Jake of Jersey City, NJ, and Charlotte of State College, PA. In addition, Fran is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Fran will be buried at The Washington Memorial Cemetery at Valley Forge, PA. The family is grateful to all those who have communicated their support in recent days.
