Obituary for
Deborah Lynn Neal McCash
April 25, 1955 – July 15, 2025
Deborah Lynn Neal McCash was born on April 25, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio to parents Donald West Neal and Eleanor Mae McLees Neal. The daughter of an Air Force officer, Deborah moved frequently as a child to places like Mississippi, Oregon, Florida and eventually to Texas. Deborah spent her school years in Waco, Texas. As a youth, some of Deborah's favorite memories include road trips back to Ohio and Kentucky to visit extended family, including fun times exploring Mammoth Cave. As a teenager, she was active in 4-H Club, showing horses and participating in 4-H youth competitions. Deborah was salutatorian of the Connally High School Class of 1973. Deborah graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After college, she was hired by the City of Austin.
Deborah became a parole officer in 1982 and moved to Angleton, Texas. In Angleton, she met her future husband, Robert Andrew McCash. They had a child, Richard James McCash, born November 14, 1984. After a divorce, Deborah moved back to Waco, and eventually became a probation officer for McLennan County, Texas. She served in this role for 15 years until a medical retirement in 2010. Deborah's son, Richard McCash went on to marry Rebekah Lynn Appel on February 24, 2006, in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania. Richard served in the Air Force Reserves and U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany and Iraq. Richard and Rebekah had a child, Ciera Nicole McCash, born on February 15, 2010. After her retirement, Deborah loved spending time with her granddaughter.
Deborah is survived by her son, Richard, daughter-in-law, Rebekah, and granddaughter, Ciera, in Old Town, Maine. She is also survived by her stepson, Robert "Jason" McCash in Holly, Michigan. Deborah is also survived by her siblings: Diane Neal Herrera (Mike) of Leander, Texas; Don Neal (Teresa) of Austin, Texas, and Cynthia Jean Tidwell Johnston (Randy) of Wichita, Kansas. Deborah is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce Tidwell of San Marcos, Texas, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins in Ohio, as well as nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews in Austin, Round Rock and Leander, Texas. Deborah is also survived by her stepmother, Sophie Neal from Humble, Texas; stepsiblings, Melinda ("Lindy") Hiscock of Humble, Texas; Carey Hiscock (Slina) of Abilene, Texas; and step-siblings Gerald Hiscock, Anthony Hiscock, Melanie Blake (Denley), Joanne Elton, and Cheryl Leonard (William) in Canada. She is predeceased by her parents, Lt Col Donald West Neal, Sr. and Eleanor Mae McLees Aven and her brother Michael Tidwell.
A family celebration of life will be held in Ohio at a future date.
