Frances "Fran" Nelson, age 82, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 on Saturday, March 8, at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home. Reverend Kent Otterman will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville.
Frances “Fran” Ann (Kos) Nelson was born April 13, 1942 in Austin, MN to Charles and Evelyn Kos. She was baptized at Trondhjem Lutheran Church. She went to the Moucha Grade School and graduated from Glenville High School in 1960.
She moved to California and worked at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA in the payroll department. She moved to Minneapolis and worked at Northwestern National Bank.
She met and married Dale Nelson at the First Methodist Church in Austin, MN on July 13, 1963. They farmed near Myrtle, MN. She was the substitute postmistress at Myrtle, MN for 17 years. She worked at ACT Northwood, IA from 1991 until her retirement. She was also a member of the ZCBJ Lodge #38 of Austin, MN.
Fran enjoyed traveling, the Minnesota Twins, the Vikings, and Elvis. Fran traveled frequently and has visited Alaska, Yellowstone, Chicago, Seattle, New York City, Graceland, and London, England. She was a cancer survivor as well.
Fran is survived by her two children Lynette (Ron) Vega and Berdale (Christine) Nelson; two grandchildren Dakota and Blair Nelson; her brothers Ronald Kos of Austin and Wayne Kos of Grand Marais, MN.
Fran is preceded in death by her husband Dale, father Charles, and mother Evelyn.
