It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frances McKenzie Smith, age 94, of Douglasville, Georgia, who peacefully departed this life on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Born on February 11, 1931, in Anniston, Alabama, Frances was a shining light in the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
Frances was the cherished daughter of the late Frank McKenzie and Hattie Chastain McKenzie. She dedicated her life to helping others, earning her Bachelor's Degree and serving as the Director of Nursing at Douglas General Hospital, where her compassion and dedication made a lasting impact. A faithful member of Heritage Baptist Church in Douglasville, Frances's love for her Lord was evident in all she did.
Frances had a passion for cooking and was known for her delightful jams and jellies. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as feeding the squirrels in her yard and spending time with her family. Her talent for sewing was matched only by her generous spirit, often providing meals for those in need.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Keith Smith.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever remember her warmth and kindness.
Frances is survived by her children: Teresa Battiste (Rick), Cynthia O'Hare (John), and Mike Smith (Cathy); her grandchildren: Tom and Leah Battiste, Natalie and Allie O'Hare, Sabrina and Madeline Smith; as well as her great-grandchild, Avery O'Hare; and her dear sister, Polly Weaver, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to honor Frances with a private ceremony to reflect on her beautiful life and the cherished memories they hold close to their hearts.
