Frances Powers Thomas, 94, of Tahoka, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Legacy of the South Plains in Lubbock. Frances was born on September 23, 1929, in Tahoka, Lynn County, Texas, to the late James Wesley Jolly and Dovie (Bankston) Jolly.
She grew up in Lynn County and attended Tahoka schools, graduating from Tahoka High School in 1947.
She married O. W. “Dub” Powers at Hungry Hill, near Wilson, Texas in 1948. Mr. Powers preceded her in death on December 31, 1981. Years later, she married Daniel Thomas from Tahoka, and he preceded her in death in 2008.
Frances was a homemaker, loved to garden and raise flowers, sew and canning vegetables and fruits. She loved music, playing the piano and singing in the church choir. Frances has been a member of the Sweet Street Baptist Church in Tahoka for 66 years.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include one daughter, Nina Powers of Dripping Springs; one brother, Larry Jolly and his wife Ellen of Lubbock; four grandchildren: Michele Powers Claborn, Melissa Powers Hosmer, Lex Frazier and Justin Porter, and 10 great-grandchildren: Koby Claborn, Zachary Hosmer, Kaylee Hosmer, Mason Frazier, Macey Frazier, Maklon Frazier, Brandon Porter, Jordan Porter, Cade Maybie and Cameron Porter. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one son, Alton Kent Powers, and one daughter, Aleta Porter.
A visitation for Frances will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Combest Family Funeral Home in Tahoka. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Sweet Street Baptist Church, 1300 Avenue J, in Tahoka. Rev. Donald Webster will be the officiant. Final rites and interment will follow in the Tahoka Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home of Tahoka.
Pallbearers will be Koby Claborn, Kevin Claborn, Brandon Porter, Jordan Porter, Cameron Porter, Mason Frazier, Maklon Frazier, Cade Maybie and Todd Hosmer.
In lieu of flowers, for anyone who would like to honor Frances, the family would be most appreciative if you would donate to Sweet Street Baptist Church, PO Box 751, Tahoka, TX 79373.
