Frances Jewell Thomas, 82, passed away on January 7, 2026.
She was born in Gaston County on October 7, 1943 to the late Paul and Pauline Hinkle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, Clifford Edward Thomas; and her brother, Dwain Hinkle.
Jewell was a devoted wife, loving mother, and beloved grandmother. She spent her career working as a seamstress and most of all she loved her family and leaves many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Michele Stewart (Frank) and Julie Noonan (Tom); step-daughter, Kathy Thompson (Scottie); sisters, Carol Hoffman (Tommy) and Kathy Randel (Jack); grandchildren, Shane McMahan, Kyle McMahan, Krista Steall (Joey), Darya Stein, Drew Stewart (Alexandra), Alex Stewart (Maya), Christian Stewart (Holland); and seven great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Hunter, Charlie, Mac, Sawyer, Frankie, and Asher.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Dickie Spargo officiating. Entombment will be private.
Pallbearers will be Drew Stewart, Alex Stewart, Christian Stewart, Frank Stewart, Shane McMahan, Kyle McMahan, Tom Noonan, and Joey Steall
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
