With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Francesco De Virgilio on May 10, 2025. Born in Molfetta, Italy, on November 9, 1938, Francesco was the only child of Mariantonia De Ruvo and Damiano De Virgilio, who tragically died as a prisoner of war in World War II, having known his son only as an infant.
Francesco spent much of his life through his early 30s laboring as a farmer with his mother in Molfetta and trucking their produce throughout Italy. Seeking greater opportunities, Francesco emigrated to the United States in 1970, joining his mother and extended family. Before long, he embarked on a career as an electrician which spanned almost three decades with HP Electric and later AVJ Electric of North Bergen. Tirelessly contributing to countless projects, he took great pride in his work at industrial complexes throughout Essex and Hudson Counties, as well as at institutions like Saint Peter's University.
For over 40 years, Francesco made his home in North Bergen with his devoted wife, Livia (nee La Forgia), where they raised their son and daughter. In 2014, he and Livia relocated to Forks, Pennsylvania. Due to health considerations, Francesco had resided at the Riverton Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Allentown, PA, since 2020.
Francesco is survived by his wife of 51 years, Livia, his children, Damian De Virgilio and Antoniette Barracato, their respective spouses, Elizabeth and Vincent, and his three adored grandsons, Enzo, Marco, and Dante. He will be fondly remembered for his unwavering diligence, his inexhaustible work ethic, and his profound love and affection for his grandchildren.
Let the family know you care by leaving your condolences, favorite memories and thoughts and prayers on the Tribute Wall.
