Francis Wallace Bowling

December 9, 1934 – May 24, 2025

Francis Wallace Bowling, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving children and his oldest grandson. Born on December 9, 1934, in Faulkner, Maryland, Francis lived a long and meaningful life marked by service, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Francis proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1961. His service took him from Ohio, Wyoming, and Oklahoma to Greenland and London, England—experiences that shaped his perspective and pride in his country.

Following his military service, he spent over 30 years as a dedicated truck driver and later worked as a custodian for South Western City Schools for 18 years. Never one to fully retire, he spent his final working years as a groundskeeper at Foxfire and Oakhurst Golf Courses.

A man of quiet strength and simple pleasures, Francis was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, and NASCAR. He rarely missed a race or a game and made it a point to watch the local news every evening. In his later years, he especially enjoyed going to bingo, where he found joy in meeting new people and forming lasting friendships.

Francis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Florine Bowling; his daughter, Terry Newman; and his grandson, Danny Six. He was also preceded in death by his five brothers, one sister, and his parents.

He is survived by his children: Cynthia Bowling, Mark Bowling, Connie (Mike) Barnette, Wally (Dawn) Bowling, and Loretta (Scott) Burns. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews—along with many others who were touched by his kindness and warmth.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Mount Carmel Hospice Foundation, 777 W. State St., Columbus, OH 43222, whose compassionate care provided great comfort in his final days.

Friends may call at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH on Friday, June 6, 2025 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.

Francis will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished.
