Francis Dweh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Merle Hay Funeral Home on Feb. 14, 2026.
Francis Tailey Dweh was born to the union of Elizabeth Dweh and Sammy Dweh in Beezon Town, Grand Gedeh County, Kanneh Clan, Liberia, West Africa. He was raised in a close-knit family alongside seven brothers and seven sisters. Among the family members who cherish his memory are Mr. Watkins Dweh and Alex Dweh, along with many other beloved relatives.

In 1981, Mr. Dweh left Zwedru for Monrovia, where he later joined the Liberian military. It was in Monrovia that he met the love of his life, Othelia, in 1988. Their union in marriage marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership built on love, commitment, and devotion.

When the Liberian civil conflict erupted in 1990, Francis and Othelia were forced to flee to Sierra Leone for safety. Their journey continued to Côte d'Ivoire, where they sought refuge before eventually immigrating to the United States in pursuit of peace and opportunity.

In 2004, Mr. Dweh migrated to the United States with his wife Othelia, their four-month-old son Clement, their daughters Mercy and Promise, and his sister-in-law Naomi. The family began their American journey in Denver, Colorado. Shortly after settling, they welcomed two more sons: Abenego Dweh in 2005 and Shadrach Dweh in 2007.

During the 16 years the family spent in Colorado, Mr. Dweh worked diligently in various industries, including manufacturing and environmental services. He was a devoted husband and father who dedicated his life to providing for and protecting his family. Though the transition to a new country brought many challenges, he faced each obstacle with resilience, determination, and faith.

In 2016, Mr. Dweh relocated his family to Des Moines, Iowa, where he became deeply involved in community leadership and service. He was a dedicated member of the National Sixty Born Association, serving as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors. He also served as President of Kanneh Gwedeh. Through these roles, he strengthened community ties and demonstrated leadership marked by wisdom, humility, and integrity. He built lasting relationships grounded in respect, generosity, and service.

In late 2025, Mr. Dweh began experiencing health challenges that progressively worsened. On December 26, 2025, he passed away suddenly, leaving a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.

To his family, Francis Tailey Dweh was more than a patriarch - he was a loving husband, a devoted father, a trusted advisor, and a best friend. His guidance shaped lives, and his presence brought comfort, strength, and stability. His legacy of perseverance, leadership, and unconditional love will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, extended family, and the many lives he touched.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
