Francis "Fran" Nunzio Roncone, 81, of Sutton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 18, 2023, with his loving family at his side.
He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Marjorie (Maurello) Roncone; their children: Lisa R. Campbell, of Belmont, MA, Richard F. Roncone, of Glastonbury, CT, Michael D. Roncone, of Melrose, MA and Stephen A. Roncone and his wife Nita, of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren: Gabriella, Kristopher, Kathryn, Nicholas, Natalia, and Mya; his siblings, Ronald Roncone, David Roncone, and Janice Roncone; along with several nieces and nephews. Fran was predeceased by his sister, Rosemary Curry; and his parents, Francis A. and Clara (Gallicchio) Roncone.
Fran was born and raised in Worcester and was a graduate of North High School. In 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served his country proudly. He then attended and graduated from Western New England University with a Bachelor's degree, and a MBA. Fran had an extensive and successful career in Pharmaceutical Sales and Business Development for over 40 years before retiring. He worked for several companies in the industry throughout his career.
Fran's passions were family and sports. He spent his free time watching his children's sports games and also coaching their soccer, baseball and basketball teams when they were growing up. He enjoyed taking his family on annual road trip vacations in New England and on the East coast. Fran took great pride in his grandchildren, never missing a sporting event, recital or school activity. He especially enjoyed his trips to St Pete's Beach with them. Fran's priority was his family.
Fran was also a big fan of the Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. He and his wife, Margie loved watching professional soccer especially the Premier League and MLS. After his children were grown, he continued coaching High School basketball and soccer.
Upon retirement, Fran and Margie spent time traveling to several destinations within the US and Canada. He enjoyed refereeing soccer games and did so until age 70. He also enjoyed working the voting polls so he could catch up with friends in town. More recently, they spent their free time trying their luck at the casino's.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/donate).
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Roncone family from 10 – 11 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at St. Mark's Church, 356 Boston Rd., Sutton, MA, with his funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 AM. Burial, with military honors, will be held at a later date.
