Francis Scherman Obituary

Age 88, passed into the arms of the Lord on November 5, 2024. He was born in San Diego, California on July 5, 1936 to Francis and Alma Scherman, a Navy family. As a child, Jim survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. He attended Mississippi State University and Arkansas State University, where he played football on a scholarship, and ran track. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in Journalism. It was at Arkansas State where he met his beloved wife of 67 years, Glenda. Jim was commissioned in the Army after graduation and served for 23 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1981. During that time he spent 7 years in two tours of duty in Germany, and had two combat tours in Vietnam where he received several medals and awards. Also during his 23 year service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, two awards each of the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.

After his military career, he spent 14 years as a business manager of the national law firm of Kutak Rock in Denver, where he retired in 1996. He, his wife, and children traveled extensively. He was a fan of the Denver Broncos and an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda and four children: Cynthia K. Rossi (Michiel), Jim Scherman, Jr. (Laurie), Janice A. Knudson (Erik), and Michael S. Scherman (Hataichanok). He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Parker, Emily, Jonathan, Sarah, Benjamin, Meghan, Micah, and Devon, and five great-grandchildren: Evalynn, Owen , Clark, Joni, and Marleigh. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette Heritz of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Jim deeply loved and was proud of his family, and they were his greatest joy. He cherished the time and activities with his children and grandchildren. Private family services will be held on November 20th followed by burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
