IT IS WITH REGRET THAT THE ANNOUNCEMENT IS MADE OF THE DEATH OF FIREFIGHTER FRANK SHEEHAN - Mr. Sheehan was bom in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn where he spent his youth working as a deckhand on various fishing boats.
He moved to Staten Island in the late 50s and graduated from PS 50, moving on to attend high school aboard the school ship SS John W Brown, docked in Manhattan at that time
He joined the USNR while still in high school and went on active duty in 1963, attaining the rate of Boatswain's Mate 3rd class and was honorably discharged in 1965. Then worked for the Brooklyn Army Terminal during their transition from there to MOT Bayonne. First as a deckhand on a ferry aiding in that transition as a temporary employee, and then a permanent employee as a deckhand aboard there Tugboats.
Mr. Sheehan joined the FDNY in 1968. working first in Brooklyn at Engine 278, Engine 237 and Ladder 109. In the early 80s he went on to Ladder 77 in Stapleton, and retired from Ladder 87 in Annadale. With a 10 month detail to Marine Co. 9 to update his" on the water" time before he retired He never left his commercial fishing, clamming or martime careers too far from his calling to the FDNY.
Retiring in 1994, Mr. Sheehan followed his dream of building a Log Cabin atop a mountain in Pennsylvania, but retumed in 2001 to Captain a ferry boat from NJ to NY after the WTC collapse crushed train tunnels. He was too old to rejoin the FDNY, but his time at FDNY Marine Co. 9 abled him to gain a Captain's License and help the way he could.
3 Years later -
-health problems-and the rebuilding of those tunnels, enabled another retirement and retreat to the log cabin atop the PA mountain.
Mr. Sheehan is survived by his friend-wife of 35 years, -then. X wife, -and friend again. Barbara Jean Perch, Lyle, Sheehan. A Sister in Florida, Georgina Curly A Brother in Texas, John Sheehan.
Sons Joseph Libretto, Frank Sheehan and Louis Sheehan.
Step sons Richard Scott and Craig Lyle
Numerous Grandchildren who Mr. Sheehan loved most-and even Great Grandchildren. Which most readers will understand-such is life.Mr. Sheehan is a member of -and an officer of, the John W Brown Alumni. who now owns the school ship SS JOHN W BROWN in Baltimore.
Also a member and working volunteer of PLS the organization
A member of, and past treasurer of the USS Chikaskia Reunion organization.
American Legion
A member of the FDNY Staten Island Retirees organization.
FDNY-Emerald Society-Holy Name Society -Anchor Club -Viking Association (2008 Man of the Year ) and various other FDNY organizations.
Past Commodore-and Dockmaster of the Lemon Creek Boatmen's Association.
Over 35 years as a NRA member, avid hunter, conservationist and animal lover. Managing his own backyard stable with 3 horses, chickens, ducks, rabbits and a pig, - back in the OLD Staten Island.
Mr Sheehan enjoyed-Wine, Woman and Song- But mostly taking on the responsibilities of life's challenges.

A Funeral service will be at 8:00 PM on Tuesday at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. located at 28 Eltingville Blvd Staten Island, New York 10312. Private Cremation to Follow.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.

Frank was a really good guy. Very thoughtful, kind, caring always willing to help friends and family throughout life even when he was dealing with his own illness which was terminal this time. Thankful for all the good times we shared and miss you soooooooooooooo much!
