MORTON – Francis M. Sutter, 96, of Morton, passed from this life to his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at his home.
He was born on November 27, 1926, in Hopedale, Ill., to Ervin and Fannie Marie (Litwiller) Sutter. Francis married Doris Egli in October of 1950, in Hopedale, Ill. She preceded him in death in 1988. He later married Jeanette Stecken in 1991, in Morton.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Sutter of Morton; children, Diane (Rick) Kirk of Morton, Sharon (Steve) Smart of St. Peters, Mo. and Darla (Shane) Sherer of Bloomington; stepchildren, Kurt (Maryanne) Stecken of Buena Vista, Colo. and Kris Siron of East Peoria; grandchildren, Alyssa, Emily, Ryan, Natalie and Lily; step-grandchildren, Kellan, Nash, Elizabeth and great-grandchildren, James, Cora, Eli, Leo, Roman, Nash, Georgia, Benjamin and Lydia.
Francis worked for AT&T for 33 years as a high frequency radio technician, retiring in 1986.
He sang bass in male and mixed quartets at weddings, funerals, nursing homes and churches for 48 years. At age 92, he had performed in Handel’s Messiah for 46 years. Francis also sang in Chapel Vision Choir and Quartet.
After retirement, he volunteered one day a week for 15 years at the Eureka Et Cetera Shop. Francis also enjoyed helping people with their electrical problems through the years.
At age 87, he visited Israel with Northwoods Church.
He was a member of Grace Church in Morton, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023, with Pastor Derek Henricks and Pastor Tim Bertsche officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service at the church. Private burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
Memorials may be made to Grace Church or Peoria Rescue Ministries.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
