Francis Orrin Torrey, age 81, of Millington, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024. His funeral service will be held at 1PM on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 1-5PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Francis was born on May 11, 1943, in Forest Township to Pauline Evelyn and Orrin Gilbert Torrey. He graduated from Millington High School in 1961.
Francis worked a short time at Modern Manufacturing in Columbiaville and then started at Fisher Body #1 on November 11, 1964, in the CV department. He worked there around 20 years and then transferred over to Buick City for about 10 years. He then ended up back where he started working, delivering mail and whatever else the engineers needed. He retired from GM after 33 years of service on November 11, 1997. On June 19, 1965, he married his love Mildred Hunt, and they enjoyed 59 ½ years of marriage, where they traveled all over the United States in their fifth wheel. They also enjoyed going on several cruises and playing Keno.
They were blessed with three children: Francis Torrey Jr, Diana and William Utica, and Barbara and Douglas Abbott; grandchildren: Rhoads and Joplin Brady and Jared Torrey; three great grandchildren: Iris and Harrison Torrey, and Mylani White; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Gerald Davis of Davison; brother-in-law, Ivan Hunt of Millington; three sisters-in-law: Ruth Smith of Texas, Alice Hunt of Frankenmuth, and Evelyn Hunt of Texas; Aunt Minnie Batoha of Pontiac; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and wonderful neighbors and friends in Arizona.
