Frank Miller Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holden Cremation & Funeral Service - Sparta on Jan. 7, 2026.
Frank Edwin Miller, born on New Year's Day, January 1, 1937, passed away surrounded by family who adored him.
Frank's life took him on many roads, often in a car he loved, and always with his beloved girl, Judy, by his side. Frank was preceded in death by his mother, Anne Gum, and his father, Faye Miller, as well as his close friends Mac and Ken, and his buddy and grandson, Ryder. He leaves behind his wife of over 65 years, Judy; his sister, Kay McGillis; his sons, Matt and Philip; and his grandchildren Stingray, Amie (her husband, Josh), and Madison (her partner, Logan), all of whom affectionately referred to him as their "Pops." He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Lux, Hank, and Meadow (with more to come!).
Frank and Kay were raised by a hardworking single mother, resulting in him spending a large portion of his childhood with his grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Garrets, on their modest plot of land in a small Illinois farming community. He later served his country in the Navy-not in wartime, but as a towering 6'5" basketball player. After his service, he pumped gas until a family member gave him a shot at an entry-level position at a small finance company. Hard work and his naturally sharp business sense allowed him to climb the ladder, eventually being transferred to Missouri as a regional supervisor of multiple loan production offices. He ultimately leveraged that success into a full career in banking, where he was largely self-taught in the fundamentals of business. He passed this knowledge of deal-making and commerce on to his two sons, lighting the fire for both to become entrepreneurs.
Frank built a life filled with family and a love of the open road. He and Judy took countless road trips across the country in their Prius, always saving on gas but never on memories. Frank never missed a chance to take Judy out for Friday night dinners in their red convertible (which he kept spotless!). At almost 89 years old, and completely dependent on a walker and scooter, he and his girl enjoyed their final top-down ride together just a couple of weeks before he passed-because being cool never goes out of style.
Although scoliosis and other physical challenges made things increasingly difficult for him, Pops remained funny and engaged. He attended hundreds of basketball games for his grandkids, family cookouts, road trips with his girl, and traded countless fishing and hunting stories with his grandson Ryder.
Frank Miller's life was not a flashy one. He was not the type of person who would tell you what you "needed to do," talk about his own accomplishments, or take credit for yours. Our Pops was a role model of modesty, kindness, perseverance, and resilience.
Pops will be fondly remembered for his "German-style" pancakes, stylish hats, gentle humor, adoration of his wife, devotion to his family, and the quiet, steady joy he brought into the lives of those around him. Thank you for all that you gave us, Pops.
Private family burial at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens.
