Frank P. Mongiello
December 20, 1967 – November 17, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Francis (Frank) P. Mongiello, who left us on November 17th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Frank was 56 years old and lived a life filled with love, strength, courage, and unwavering devotion to both his family and his community.
Born on December 20th, 1967, in Chester, Pennsylvania, Frank grew up with a passion for sports, nature, and learning. His passion for education continued as he earned both his Bachelor's degree and MBA from Drexel University. He was always eager for adventure and embraced life with enthusiasm. Known for his kindness, determination, and ever-present sense of humor, Frank had an incredible ability to lift the spirits of those around him, even during the most challenging times.
Frank and Marilyn's love story began at a gym in Philadelphia, where their shared passion for fitness brought them together. In those early days, they could often be found climbing the iconic Rocky steps of the Art Museum or jogging along Kelly Drive, laying the groundwork for a life built on strength, resilience, and love. They married in 1994 and settled in Bucks County, where they raised their six beautiful children.
That same passion for fitness was passed down to their children, and Frank was always an active participant in whatever season of sport they were in. Whether it was wrestling, cheerleading, pole vaulting, soccer, theater, swimming, or diving, Frank was a constant presence at every sporting event, never missing an opportunity to support them. His commitment to being there for his children was unwavering, and he took immense pride in cheering them on, celebrating their achievements, and offering encouragement at every step of their journeys.
Frank's career soared when he joined the Philadelphia Federal Reserve, quickly earning a reputation as a dedicated and valuable team member. Later in his career, he transferred to the Federal Reserve Board, where his expertise continued to shine. Frank's commitment to excellence was recognized in 2005, when he became the first IT professional to receive the William Taylor Award, the highest honor in the Supervision and Regulation community. Even after being diagnosed with ALS in 2015, Frank's remarkable work ethic and leadership continued to earn him accolades. He was honored with the Division of Supervision and Regulation Award for Excellence in 2016, and in 2017, he received the prestigious Dollar Tree Award.
One of Frank's most remarkable accomplishments was his persistent commitment to advocating for patients' rights. He devoted himself to providing hope for those facing terminal illnesses by championing the Right to Try Act, which was signed into law in 2018. This landmark legislation, which bears his name, gave patients with life-threatening conditions access to experimental treatments that were not yet FDA-approved. Frank's determination and courage in fighting for the rights of others continue to inspire and will have a lasting impact on countless lives.
Even in the face of his own battle with ALS, Frank never gave up. He met each day with unshakeable resolve, confronting his challenges head-on. Despite the immense adversity he faced, he remained a pillar of strength for his family, never allowing his illness to diminish his love for them or his steadfast commitment to being there for them.
Above all, Frank cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved spouse, Marilyn Mongiello, and his children, Ilyssa Mongiello, Eric Mongiello, Alexis Mongiello, Samantha Mongiello, Zack Mongiello, and Zoe Mongiello. He is also survived by his mother, Carol Powell Mongiello, his father, Francis Mongiello, his sisters Carol, April, and Lisa, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who will forever remember his warmth, generosity, and the legacy of his strength.
A Celebration of Frank's Life will be held on December 8th, 2024, at the Newtown Athletic Club, 120 Pheasant Run. Newtown, Pa 18940 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, with a service to be held at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hark ALS (https://hark-als.org), an organization close to Frank's heart, which supports families affected by ALS.
Frank will be deeply missed, but his legacy of hope, love, and perseverance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
"This is not the path I chose, but it's the path I'm on, so I will fight like hell to greet tomorrow's dawn. Failure is not an option."

We first met Frank at ALS/TDI in Boston back in 2015. Our son, Jay who has ALS and Frank immediately became friends. We have followed Frank's journey since and so admire him and his family's brave ALS fight. You will be missed.
