Frank Michael Pullo

EAST STROUDSBURG Frank Michael Pullo of East Stroudsburg passed away suddenly at home on February 7, 2023. Born on October 21, 1951 in Easton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Michael and Grace Pullo. On December 2, 1990, he married Nancy (Auker) who survives at home along with his forever companion, Emily. He is also survived by his sister, Maria and husband Doug, and several cousins. Frank graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1973 and continued his education to earn a master's degree in physical education in 1976 and a doctorate of education from Temple University in 1989. He began his career at East Stroudsburg University as a graduate assistant and was appointed by President Bell as the first strength coach for then East Stroudsburg State College's athletic department and served as the advisor to the Power Lifting Club from 1982-1987. In 1992, Dr. Pullo also created the college's Sport Management Club and became its first faculty advisor. He served as Interim Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance (now the College of Health Sciences) for two years, as chair of the former Department of Movement Studies and Exercise Science for five years and as the chair of the Department of Sport Management since its inception in 2004 until his retirement in 2014. He was a member of the graduate faculty for 29 years and served on 40 thesis committees. For his post doctoral study, he and his wife traveled to 55 colleges across 15 states gathering research data on sport recreation facilities. In September 2012 he was honored as a Distinguished Professor. Frank was active in the ESU Alumni Association, serving as vice president from 1987-1990, and as president from 1990 to 1995. He was elected to the ESU Foundation Board in 2014 and served as vice chair from 2017 to 2020. Frank developed a love for Old English Sheepdogs and they accompanied him everywhere. Almost every morning, you could find Frank and his current sheepdog, Emily, having coffee at their table at Cafe Duet. He and Emily could also be seen frequently at Tolinos Wine Bar. Wherever Frank was spotted around town you knew his forever companion was close to his side. Frank was an avid sports fan and he and his wife Nancy enjoyed Penn State football games and many ESU sports events. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 5 -7pm at William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Camp Papillon Animal Shelter. A scholarship is being established, the Frank Michael Pullo Memorial Endowed Scholarship '73, '76.
