Mr. Calvin Frank Robertson, of
Griffin, Georgia, age 88, passed away September 16, 2025.
Frank was born on October 6, 1936, in Thomson, Georgia. He is survived by his loving wife, June, of 68 years. He is also survived by his daughters: Cherry Alicia Rawlins and her husband, David Rawlins, of Zebulon, Georgia, and grandchildren, Jared Rawlins, Miranda Rawlins-O'Neal, Rylie Rawlins, Tyler Rawlins, and 1 great-grandchild; Daphne Jill Brennan and her husband, Patrick Brennan, of Atlanta, Georgia and grandchildren Sean Brennan and Daniel Brennan; and his son, Calvin Frank Robertson, Jr. and his wife Amy Robertson of
Griffin, Georgia and grandchildren Caleb Robertson, Jonah Robertson, and Briella Robertson. He was also survived by his brothers, Herman Eugene Robertson, of Thomson, Georgia and Douglas Y. Robertson, of Thomson, Georgia; and sisters, Margaret Skaife, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Joyce Raymond and her husband Jim Raymond of Surprise, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin Hoke Robertson and Mamie (Stevenson) Robertson; brothers, Robert "Bob" Robertson and his wife Kate Robertson, and Jimmy David Robertson.
Frank graduated from the University of Georgia with BSFR '63 and MSFR '66 degrees from the Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources. He retired after 27 years as Vice President of Marketing from Osmose Wood Preserving,
Griffin, Georgia, in 2000. Frank graduated from Thomson High School, Thomson, Georgia, in 1954. He was employed by the McDuffie Progress newspaper from 1953 until 1956. At this time he moved to Athens, Georgia and was employed by the Athens Banner Herald newspaper from 1956 until his graduation from the University of Georgia in 1966. Upon graduation from UGA in 1966, he was employed by the Georgia Forest Research Council for eight years as Assistant Director located at the Georgia Forestry Center in Macon, Georgia. Beginning in 1973, he joined the Osmose Wood Preserving Company and service in a number of marketing positions for 27 years retiring as Vice President, Marketing, in 2000.
His civic and professional activities included president of the Macon Jaycees, Macon, Georgia, in 1971-72. Professionally, he was a member of the Society of American Foresters, serving as President in 1974. He was also a member of the Forest Products Research Society and was President of the Society's Southeastern Section in 1982.
Frank's college activities included Editor of the 1963 "Cypress Knee" which was the yearbook of the University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. He was a member of Xi Sigma Pi and served as President in 1963-64. Xi Sigma Pi was the national forestry honorary fraternity at the University of Georgia. In 1973, he served as President of the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources Alumni Association.
From 1954 through 1965 he was a member of the Georgia Army National Guard serving in Guard units in Thomson, Georgia and Elberton, Georgia.
He had many longtime hobbies including hunting, fishing, and golfing. Following retirement, camping took on greater interest, especially winter camping in Florida. Deer hunting was one of his most favorite sports, second only to fishing. He spent a lot of his free time golfing and fishing with his wife June. Vegetable gardening was a very enjoyable hobby, partly because fresh vegetables were favorite foods enjoyed both by him and his wife.
Frank was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Bolton, Brantley-Cheatham Sunday School Class where he assisted other class member as a teacher.
Frank's life will be celebrated at a service on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the funeral service, followed by graveside service at Oak Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Griffin, 106 West Taylor Street,
Griffin, Georgia 30223.
