Robert H. “Bobby” Bowen, lovingly known as “Grandaddy,” passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in Athens, Georgia. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love of family, and his generous heart.

Bobby was born on January 1, 1954, in Winder, Barrow County, to Earl Bowen and Ruth Morrison Bowen. He was proudly the first baby born in Northeast Georgia on New Year’s Day. He graduated from Winder-Barrow High School in 1972 and went on to build his career at the University of Georgia, serving as the Copy Services Manager at the Tate Student Center. A printer by profession, he was known for his dedication and hard work.

This year, Bobby and his beloved wife, Constance (Connie) Dooley Bowen, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and faith.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Constance (Connie) Dooley Bowen; his children, Adam (Erin) Bowen and Katie (Jonathan) Hutton; and his grandchildren, Emma Grace, Thomas, Abigail, Zane, Robert, and Gryson. He is also survived by his siblings, Gloria (Dan) Drawdy of Blackshear, Edward (Carol) Bowen of Dewy Rose, and Joe (Debra) Bowen of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth Bowen, and his brother, John (Martha) Bowen.

Bobby was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church in Athens. He was a kind and loving person, a beautifully humble man who was always ready to help anyone and everyone. His greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605.
