Edward Kenton Sprague, age 77 of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away on August 15, 2025, after living with pancreatic cancer for the last six years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy R. Sprague and Edward C. Sprague. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Goldson-Vaas and son-in-law Byron Vaas; his sister Arden Scranton and brother-in-law Charles Scranton of Vermont, as well as his nieces and nephew: Sarah, Gretchen, and David Scranton. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Judah.

Edward, who liked to be called Kent, was born in Long Island, New York on August 7, 1948. He attended Bucknell University and went on to receive his Master’s degree in geology at the University of Georgia. He belonged to Gracepointe Church of the Nazarene in Loganville, Georgia for over 30 years. He worked at H.B. Fuller as a chemist for decades until he retired in 2019. While spending several years in Vermont, he worked in the special education department at Burr and Burton Academy. Kent had a curious, philosophical mind - he loved a friendly debate and reading mystery novels in his spare time. He was an avid birdwatcher and found great solace in nature.

Kent was incredibly compassionate, which led him to take an interest in caring for teenagers in trouble. Over the years, he gave his time volunteering at his church’s youth group and local homeless shelters. He also supported struggling families with rides to church, food, and whatever else they needed. Many local teens who came from troubled homes saw him as a father-figure and thanked him for changing their lives. Kent was a man who unofficially adopted every broken child he met, and many of them grew up to live healthy lives because of him. He was a man of faith and gave selflessly to those in need.

There will be a private family service for Kent in October. In his memory a donation may be made to the Second Chance Animal Center in Arlington, VT.
