Heaven just welcomed a force of nature! On October 4, 2025, while at home and surrounded by family and friends, Frankie Irene Shortt (Cox) of German Township, Ohio, ascended to the arms of the Lord.
Born on 19 October 1935 in the Appalachian Mountains near Pound, Virginia, Frankie began making her mark on humanity. Her family was involved in the lumber and coal industry, but she grew up with little material effects. She married Glen in 1957, and they moved to Ohio to seek employment opportunities. Frankie raised two children, grew gardens, sewed, made crafts, loved nature and enjoyed fishing. She was an outstanding cook and baker. In the summer months, she could be found picking wild raspberries and blackberries, which she canned or made into incredible pies and cobblers.
Frankie was a member of the State Road Methodist Church, in German Township, which she supported whole heartedly when her health allowed. She never met a stranger and was known for her Christian virtues, generosity, kindness and openness. Frankie was afflicted with a debilitating ailment which she fought until the end of her life, but she always appreciated everything the Lord provided and never took anything for granted. The world is a better place because of Frankie Shortt.
Frankie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Glenn, her children, David and Sally, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Brie, Maive and Maggie, her sister Marjorie, and special little friends, Bootsie and Bella. She was predeceased by her parents, Clayford and Martha Cox, brothers, Paul and Doug and her grandson, Joshua.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, 16 November 2025, at State Road United Methodist Church, 15020 State Route 725, Germantown, Oh 45327
At a later date, Frankie will be interred in the family cemetery on a mountain in Pound, Virginia.
