Lula Bell Shortt

Lula Bell Shortt, age 87, of Cedar Bluff, VA, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at her home. Lula Bell was born on May 8, 1938, in Premier, VA, and was the daughter of the late Ross Stevens and Stella Richardson Stevens. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the area. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Shortt; her daughters, Joan Tuggle, and Sandra Dowdy; grandson, Mark Hammond; and several sisters and brothers. She is survived by: Her Grandchildren: Patrick Counts and wife, Keri Josh Hammond and wife, Mandi Great Grandchildren: Hannah Taylor and husband, Will; Aysia Hammond and fiancé, Noah Vandyke; Aybrum Hammond, Gavin Counts, Colton Kitts, Tanner Kitts, Isabella Nash, and Dominic Nash. Great Great-Grandchildren: Willard Taylor and Desmond Taylor Sister: Lois Wilson of Delaware Several nieces and nephews also survive, along with a host of family and friends. Special thanks to Legacy Hospice and Tiffany Lester. Funeral services for Lula Bell Shortt will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Lee Burke officiating. Interment will follow at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Those who are going to the cemetery are asked to line up at the funeral home at 10:30 am. Pallbearers will be Patrick Counts, Josh Hammond, Aybrum Hammond, Colton Kitts, Tanner Kitts, and Mitchell Counts. The Shortt family will receive friends from 6-7 pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
