Fred Daniel "Dan" Dunn Jr. April 5, 1947 – November 21, 2025
Fred Daniel Dunn Jr., known by all who loved him simply as Dan, passed away November 21, 2025. Born on April 5, 1947, in Tennessee to Fred and Ellen (Ledford) Dunn, Dan spent his childhood in the Pontiac–Waterford area of Michigan. He later settled in Highland, Michigan, where he and his wife, Barbara, built their home together as newlyweds and shared more than 34 years of love, hard work, and cherished memories.
After retiring, Dan and Barbara embraced a quieter life in northern Michigan, dividing their time between their log home in Blaney Park and their lakefront home on Big Manistique Lake in Curtis. Wherever they were, Dan found peace in nature and joy in simple moments.
Dan worked as a proud union pipe fitter for Consumers Energy for more than 30 years, retiring at the age of 55. He was known for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic-qualities that carried through every aspect of his life.
A lifelong traveler at heart, Dan explored the United States and Canada with enthusiasm. His love of travel continued with Barbara, taking countless family trips in their RV, exploring mountains, lakes, and warm-weather getaways. He treasured fishing in Canada and visiting the mountains of Tennessee.
Dan also found great happiness in the companionship of the couple's beloved Yorkie dogs, who were always by his side waiting for treats.
Above all, Dan was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara Dunn; his children, Eric Dunn and Krista (Jeffrey) Hall; and his granddaughters, Grace and Lily Hall who brought immense joy to his later years. He adored his granddaughters and cherished every moment spent with them. Dan is also survived by his sister, Frieda Trent, Sister-in-law Kathy Dunn and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Dunn Sr. and Ellen Dunn; his brothers, James "Don" Dunn and Jerry Dunn; his niece, Tonya Dunn; his mother- and father-in-law, Olive Absher and James Absher; and brothers-in-law Donald Absher and Robert Absher.
Dan will be remembered for his warm heart, his sense of adventure, his steady presence, and the unwavering love he gave to his family. His legacy lives on in the stories he shared, the places he loved, and the family he devoted his life to.
