Fred Johnston Jr., 70, of Owego, NY, passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2024. He was born January 14, 1954 the son of the late Fred and Beverly (Hellmers) Johnston. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Maryann, in 2021; his son, Freddy, his grandchild Christopher; his siblings, Dale Johnston, John Johnston, Pete Bostwick, Victoria Lord, Orpha (Mitzy) Johnston, Bonnie Johnston, Brenda Johnston; Surviving are his children, Valarie Foster, Shawn Craft (Jerry Reynolds), Fred (Elizabeth) Johnston; his sisters and brothers, Peggy (John) Smith, Pixy Johnston, Maryann Glenn, Bonnie (Mark) Tarntino, Mike (Mary) Johnston, Steven (Michelle) Johnston, Leo Johnston, Norman Johnston, his grandchildren, Anna (Billy), Brittany (Brett), Paul (Kait), Samantha (Alex), Kaitlyn (Seth), Michael, Matthew, Allison and little Freddy; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his childhood friends, Jessie and Benny Harding and his best friends, Mike Rorick and John Gardner. Fred loved his family and cherished the friendship's he had made over the years. Weather he was salmon fishing in Pulaski with his brother John, or casting in the St. Lawrence on his trips to Wellesley Island, Fred knew how to have fun. He was always involved with people, he enjoyed bowling, throwing horseshoes and hunting with friends in the fall. Fred was a veteran of the US Army, being discharged in 1976. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Fred's life will be held at the Owego Elks Lodge #1039, 223 Front St, Owego, NY 13827, on March 23, 2024 from 10:00am until 2pm. Please share your memories at www.RichardsFH.com.
