A funeral service for Fred McKim, 94 years old, of Arnolds Park, Iowa and formerly of Plover, Iowa, will be held Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. A luncheon will be served at the church following the service. A visitation for Fred will be from 10:00-11:00 AM and also from 12:00-2:00 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church.
Interment will be at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 1st at Powhatan Cemetery in Rolfe, Iowa.
Fred Evans McKim, Jr. was born December 8, 1930, in Plover, Iowa, to Leta (Heathman) and Fred Evans McKim, Sr. After graduating from high school in 1948, Fred enlisted in the United States Army in 1952, where he served honorably until his discharge in 1954, achieving the rank of Corporal.
On October 15, 1955, Fred was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Hanish in Laurens, Iowa. Over the years, they made their home in several Iowa communities including Plover, Rolfe, and West Bend before settling at their home on Emerald Hills Golf Course in Arnolds Park in 1995.
Fred was a devoted member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park and proudly maintained seventy-four consecutive years of membership in the American Legion. He was also active in numerous professional and civic organizations, including the Iowa Falls Gateway Shippers and Agri Industries. In recognition of his leadership and service, he was appointed by Governor Robert Ray to the Iowa Railway Finance Authority.
During his lifetime, Fred volunteered for Operation Upshot–Knothole, a 1953 nuclear test at the Nevada Test Site involving military personnel. He also lent his expertise to twenty-one different boards, including the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Rock Island Grain Rail Transportation board.
Beyond his service and professional pursuits, Fred loved golfing and ballroom dancing, enjoying both well into his later years.
Fred passed away on October 27, 2025, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa, at ninety-four years of age.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Margaret McKim; children, Denise Jensen and Don (Diana) McKim; five grandchildren, Brad (Kris) Jensen, Cory (Jami) Jensen, Angie (Scott) Schrage, Ryan (Brittany) McKim, and Katelyn McKim; and seven great-grandchildren, McKena, Owen, and Easton Jensen, Karli, Kinzi, and Drake Schrage, and Mila McKim.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Leta McKim, and his siblings, Jack, Margaret, Jessie, Dorthy, Doris, Carol, Alice, Zola, and Frank.
